Beasiswa S3 Singapore: PhD Scholarship in Education Programmes at Nanyang Technological University

PhD RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

The National Institute of Education, Singapore (NIE), Nanyang Technological University, is looking for suitable candidates to apply for full-time research scholarships at NIE leading to the Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) degree. Candidates with research interests in the humanities, education, sciences and physical education are welcomed to apply. The scholarship will commence in January 2009.
Criteria

* Candidates should possess a First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours degree or its equivalent, and a Master`s degree in the relevant areas and the ability to pursue research in the candidate`s proposed field of advanced study.
* For international applicants, min scores required: GRE - 1180 (verbal & quantitative) ; TOEFL - 580 (paper), 237 (computer), 80 (internet); IELTS - 6.5; Analytical Writing - 3.5; GATE - 90%.
* Candidates should also not be on paid employment or accept paid employment or concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, and bursary or top-up allowance during the prescribed period of the award.


Coverage

* The award is tenable for one year in the first instance and is renewable subject to good progress up to a maximum of 4 years.
* The monthly stipend for PhD students is S$2,000. Upon successful completion of the Qualifying Examination and Candidature Confirmation (after 12 months), the stipend may be increased to S$2,500, subject to good performance in research and required courses.
* Students are expected to cover all their living expenses (including food and lodging) from this stipend.
* In addition to the monthly stipend, the award also covers the annual tuition fees (S$4,482 to S$11,200 depending on nationality) and the annual computer fees.

For non Singapore Citizens/Permanent Residents
The offer of this award is conditional upon the scholar being issued a valid Student`s Pass by the Singapore Immigration, which is also subject to medical clearance, and maintaining a valid Student`s Pass for the entire duration of the scholar`s studies for the higher degree.

Belgium: PhD in Neuroimmunology at Hasselt University

The Biomedical Research Institute of Hasselt University has a vacancy for a (m/f):
PhD student Neuroimmunology (2x2 years)(mandate MBW/2008/025)

Job description:
Research at the Biomedical Research Institute (BIOMED, Hasselt University) focuses on disease mechanisms of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the development of new therapeutics for this neuro-inflammatory disease. The group uses various modern technologies in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology and imaging to study immune system alterations and immune mediated damage of oligodendrocytes during MS. Recent data show that immune responses in the CNS are not merely detrimental but also have protective effects e.g. by producing neurotrophic factors such as neurokines. The successful applicant will further investigate immune mediated neuroprotective mechanisms in MS. This project is part of a recently approved Methusalem Program called NEURONET. NEURONET brings together researchers from Hasselt University and Antwerp University (VIB) headed by prof. Christine Van Broeckhoven (UA) and prof. P. Stinissen (UHasselt) specialized in clinical neurology, neuropathology, neuroimmunology, genetics and genomics, cell biology, mouse models and therapeutics in the domain of neurodegenerative diseases.
Profile and diploma:
The applicant should hold a master degree in life sciences e.g. medical sciences, biomedical sciences, bioengineering, biochemistry, biology, biotechnology or equivalent. Laboratory research experience is a definite plus (e.g. during the Master`s dissertation). Applicants should have excellent communication skills and sufficient knowledge of Dutch and/or English. The candidate is highly motivated to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Beasiswa International Postgraduate Scholarship January 2009 Intake

Liverpool Hope University is committed to encouraging applications from students with high academic qualifications who will benefit from study in the UK. Liverpool Hope University is pleased to announce a new scheme of International scholarships for students applying for a Liverpool Hope University programme in 2008/09.

International Postgraduate Scholarships are available to Postgraduate applicants and are worth half the tuition fees (e.g. 50% discount on fees). The number of International Postgraduate Scholarships available is five annually. The Interantional Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded by the decision of the University Committee based on academic merit, community involvement, and future aspirations, as shown in the submitted application.
Criteria to apply: Applications are welcome from International students who have achieved first class results in their final degree classification and can demonstrate high academic achievement and high social and community involvement.

How the International Postgraduate Scholarships are judged:
Scholarships applications are reviewed in the preceeding month after the deadline by the Liverpool Hope University Student Finance Committee.
Applications are not only judged in terms of academic excellence, but also by the applicant’s social and community contribution.
It is important to show on the application the extent to which your study on the chosen Liverpool Hope Postgraduate programme will enhance your future, the future of your community, and the future of your country.
Applications should show how the applicants study will enhance the social and economic development of their home country when they return after their studies.
Evidence of relevant paid and/or voluntary work done, or particular contributions to the wider community, should also be included in the application.

* The International Scholarship Application asks you to ‘please indicate why you think you should be considered for an International Postgraduate Scholarship and how you think this would benefit you in your programme of study’; this is your scholarship application statement of purpose. This is the most important part of the application form and will be carefully judged by the University Committee.
* In this statement of purpose try to include details that cover all the criteria: acaedmic achievement/results, charity/volunteer workyou’ve done, community work and contribution, plus future aspirations.
* If you would like to attach a separate Statement of Purpose, please ensure it is sent with the Scholarship Application form and is clearly marked with your name and programme of study.
* Please attach the relevant documents - academic transcripts and academic reference. Scholarship applications can no be accepted without copies of the relevant documents.

* The Overseas Scholarship and the International Postgraduate Scholarship are only available to applicants paying full international tuition fees; citizens of the UK, EU and EEA are not eligible to apply
