Doctoral Scholarships
Recipients of the doctoral scholarships are selected from the applicants to MGSE on a strictly competitive basis based on academic excellence. In their application form candidates can indicate if they wish to run for a scholarship. The scholarship amounts to 1.000 Euros per month. In addition, recipients are given 103 Euros per month to cover travel costs, costs for books etc.
In general, the scholarships are awarded right in the beginning of the program and last for three years. Please note that at the end of the first year of the Ph.D. program the doctoral students’ performance is evaluated. Dismissal from the program and termination of the scholarship are possible if progress and aptitude have not met MGSE requirements.

Applications to the MGSE
The MGSE offers 10 doctoral scholarships for the three-year Ph.D. program in Economics with start in October 2009. Application deadline is April 30, 2009.

Eligibility for Application

* Proof of foreign citizenship
* Proof of a Master’s degree or equivalent
* Graduate GPA of at least 3.4 or equivalent academic performance
* TOEFL (if applicable) score of 550 or above for paper -based test (213 for computer-based test).
* For the GRE comprised of Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical sections, a total score of 1650 or above is required. For the new GRE version comprised of Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical. Writing sections, a minimum of 400 is required on Verbal, 650 on Quantitative, and 3.5 on Analytical Writing.

Required Project Title: Ecosystem restoration of bauxite processing residue sand disposal areas in Western Australia: Important biogeochemical processes and effective fertilisation strategies Rehabilitation of bauxite-processing residues represent a major challenge to alumina producers worldwide. The management of residue storage areas (RSAs) involves many of the fundamental chemical, physical, microbial and biological processes controlling plant-water-soil interactions. We are seeking an outstanding student to study fulltime within the Centre for Forestry and Horticultural Research at Griffith University in this exciting area of mining rehabilitation.
