Applicants need to hold a Master’s degree or the equivalent, or expect to receive such by January 31, 2009. Applicants shall have submitted their thesis at the time of application, to the extent the thesis forms part of their Master’s programme.

Applicants with a foreign Master’s degree will have their degree assessed by CIRIUS to establish, if the Master’s degree of the applicant is equivalent to a Danish Master’s degree. More information about CIRIUS is available at: http://www.studyindenmark.dk

The requirement for the equivalent of a Danish Master’s degree is stipulated in the relevant agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) (pdf)

Employment as a PhD fellow shall occur pursuant to the applicable rules of the University of Copenhagen and the Faculty, as well as the relevant agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). Under this agreement, the PhD fellow is obliged – without further remuneration – to carry out allotted work to an extent corresponding to a total of 840 working hours in the case of a three-year contract.

Applications must be submitted on the appropriate form, which also stipulates the appropriate enclosures to attach. Do not submit written work. The assessment committee will request copies if deemed necessary.

Fujitsu Asia Pacific Scholarship Program at JAIMS in Honolulu, Hawaii

Fujitsu Scholarship (The Fujitsu Asia Pacific Scholarship) Program, sponsored by Fujitsu Limited, provides financial assistance for postgraduate education and cross-cultural management training to participants from the Asia-Pacific region.

East-West Knowledge Leader Program (EWKLP), An intensive three-month, Graduate diploma program at JAIMS in Honolulu, Hawaii.
To qualify for the East-West Knowledge Leader Program (EWKLP) Fujitsu Scholarship, you must be a citizen of one of the following countries/areas: State of Hawaii, Australia, China*, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar*, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam*.

You must qualify for admission to EWKLP. For complete information, refer to the EWKLP application documents contained in the EWKLP Application Checklist section. EWKLP Fujitsu Scholarship qualifications include the following:
• A bachelor’s degree or one equivalent to a four-year standard baccalaureate degree in any discipline from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
• Grade point average of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• A minimum TOEFL score of 577/233/90 (paper/computer/Internet), TOEIC score of 750 or IELTS overall band test result of 6.5 or higher from tests taken between January 2006 and January 2008. Applicants who received a bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree that comprises at least two years of full-time coursework within the last five years from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S., Australia, United Kingdom, or New Zealand; or from a university in Canada, Africa or Singapore where English is the language of instruction are exempt from taking the TOEFL, TOEIC, or IELTS.
• A minimum of three years of relevant full-time work experience at time of application.

Deadline for submission: February 15, 2008
All application documents, test scores and academic transcripts must be received by JAIMS by February 15, 2008. Applicants who fail to submit all documents by the due date cannot be considered for the Fujitsu Scholarship.

USA] Postdoctoral Position in Neuronal Cell Signaling, Department of Pharmacology, The University of Iowa

A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Pharmacology, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, Iowa City starting from March, 2008. The laboratory is interested in studying Neuronal Cell Signaling. In particular, projects are aimed at studying the dynamic regulation of expression, trafficking, localization and functions of voltage-gated potassium channels by diverse GPCR signaling pathways in mammalian neurons.
Check Mohapatra & Trimmer, J Neurosci 2006; and Park & Mohapatra et al., Science 2006 to get a broad idea on the future projects. These projects will employ tissue (neuronal) culture, biochemical, proteomic, cell biological, molecular biological, and electrophysiological techniques to answer critical quiestions.


Ph.D. with good knowledge of basic neuroscience is a required qualification. Although experience in atleast 2 or more above-mentioned expertise is expected, candidates with thorough expertise in cell biology, confocal microscopy and imaging will be given preference. You will be allowed and encouraged to learn all the techniques and rational approach used in the laboratory. Excellent support and motivation will be provided for future career advancement. The laboratory will be a well-equipped one with own tissue culture, biochemical, molecular biological and some imaging and good electrophysiological facilities.

The University of Iowa, College of Medicine has excellent central core research facilities (Genomic, Proteomic, Imaging, and Gene-targeting cores) at the disposal for rapid advancement of research projects.

A PhD position is available at the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Computational Physics at Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria, as part of a research project founded by the Austrian science foundation (FWF).

The tasks will involve the analytical development and numerical implementation of state-of-the-art many-body methods and their applications to High-Temperature superconductors. The project will be partly carried out in collaboration with world-leading groups in the subject.

The position is available immediately and will start as soon as a suitable candidate will be available, preferably before summer 2007. The appointment can be for up to three years.


Candidates should have a Master or Diploma degree in Physics, excellent academic grades and good practice in numerical methods especially in Fortran 90 or C++.


Ideal candidates should have good knowledges in methods for strongly-correlated systems, or, at least, an interest in learning and working with these methods.

Numerical Renormalization-group and/or cluster methods will be used in the project. Please, point out knowledges in this fields, if available.
